Meeting at RA NA Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs

On March 6, the Chair of RA NA Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs Koryun Nahapetyan met with Nick Gurr, United Kingdom Ministry of Defence Director for International Security Policy. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Armenia Judith Farnworth also took part in the meeting.

In the course of the meeting the achievements of bilateral cooperation and the perspectives of the implementation of the new programmes in the sphere of defense were discussed. Koryun Nahapetyan highly assessed the involvement of the United Kingdom in the defense reforms being implemented in Armenia. The importance of the events concerning, particularly, the training and teaching, military education of the peace-keepers and the provision of consultations in the sphere of defense was underlined.

Evaluating the deepening of bilateral cooperation, Nick Gurr expressed readiness to expand the format of the Armenian-British cooperation on formation of the new legislation in the spheres of defense and security, the enlargement of parliamentary oversight towards the mentioned spheres and the rise of efficiency of the use of oversight tools.
